‘1984’ Coming to a Neighborhood Government Center Near You

A Tech columnist for The New York Times urged the Biden administration Tuesday to tackle the avalanche of misinformation flooding the internet, cable and broadcast news.

And the columnist, Kevin Roose, even suggested how to do it (and no, it wasn’t by banning CNN and MSNBC).

He proposed that the president appoint a “reality czar” to lead a task force that would separate fact from fiction.

“This task force could also meet regularly with tech platforms and push for structural changes that could help those companies tackle their own extremism and misinformation problems,” Roose wrote.

“For example, it could formulate ‘safe harbor’ exemptions that would allow platforms to share data about QAnon and other conspiracy theory communities with researchers and government agencies without running afoul of privacy laws. And it could become the tip of the spear for the federal government’s response to the reality crisis.”

He gave two examples of what he called “misinformation” that’s been published recently: election fraud and COVID-19. But is it really misinformation?

Every election is subject to fraud and the 2020 presidential election was reportedly rampant with it, especially in battleground states. It’s over, Congress certified the electoral votes and Biden won. We get it.

But we can’t ignore the irregularities and just hope they go away next time. By ignoring the problem, it will only get worse.

On the pandemic issue, Biden signed an executive order last week banning federal agencies and public health documents from using terms such as “Chinese virus” or the “Wuhan virus.” That’s another example of ignoring fact.

Also on the COVID issue, immediately after President Trump extolled the virtues of hydroxychloroquine as a therapeutic, news outlets denounced it and social media platforms censored posts that mentioned it.

But science is never settled. It’s constantly evolving and recent studies suggest that the drug, when used in combination with others, is beneficial for treating COVID patients.

And the maxim that the science is never settled is especially true when it comes to manmade global warming. The climate is always changing and we still don’t know how much of it can be attributable to human activity.

When climate “gurus” like Al Gore and John Kerry claim “the science is settled,” all they’re doing is discouraging further research.

If the notion of a “reality czar” sounds familiar, you probably recall the George Orwell novel “1984.” Set in a future totalitarian society, Winston Smith, the book’s protagonist, worked at the Ministry of Truth — as a sort of “reality czar.”

As Orwell put it, “the party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

He included a few examples, where the party would have you believe that “War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”

But Orwell was a rank amateur at this game. The Democratic Party and the Biden administration would already have you believe that:

• We can create jobs by eliminating them.
• We can create opportunity for Americans by encouraging illegal immigration.
• We support women’s rights by allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports.
• It’s OK to create a huge carbon footprint if you’re saving the planet from creating a huge carbon footprint (right, John Kerry?).
• Bacteria is proof of life on Mars, but a heartbeat is not proof of life on Earth.
• You can lift up the poor by destroying the wealthy.
• You can impeach someone from public office who doesn’t hold public office.
• You can create a safe society by removing weapons that law-abiding citizens use to protect themselves.
• You can create unity with colleagues by refusing to negotiate with them.
• You can create renewable energy by eliminating fossil fuel energy.
• You can make Iran peaceful by removing restrictions and giving them money.
• And finally, this administration can take credit for Operation Warp Speed by simply calling it something else.

Biden made what might have been a Freudian slip when he told Iowans in 2019 that “We choose truth over facts.” And we want these clowns to tell us what to believe?

Liberals already own mainstream news, academia, Hollywood, most factchecking organizations, social media, the White House and both chambers of Congress. And ironically, they call themselves “the resistance.”

But there’s one thing they don’t own, and that’s the truth.

“1984’s” most memorable line was, “in a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.”

It’s time for Americans to once again become revolutionaries, by always searching for the truth and accepting nothing less than the truth. It should come as second-nature to us. After all, revolution is imprinted in our DNA.
